Colombian JuanFer Vélez wins the 2024 Red Bull Guanajuato Cerro Abajo

For the second edition in the country, the most epic urban downhill MTB race, Red Bull Cerro Abajo, hits Guanajuato – one of the most magical little towns in Mexico.

Guanajuato, Mexico – In front of twelve thousand people and an impeccable 1:51.212-minute descent, JuanFer Velez secured his title in the second edition of Red Bull Guanajauto Cerro Abajo, the most extreme urban downhill competition.

I am extremely happy considering that last year I had a DNF in this same course. I felt great and very confident. I really love this track and I love the crowd. I’m very satisfied with myself“, said Velez once he concluded the race. The 20-year old who was the series champion in 2023 has proven once again that he is one to watch within the urban downhill discipline.

After an epic first stop in Valparaiso, Chile, Red Bull Cerro Abajo fans were expecting to see Borba win his second title this year, however the Colombian riders were quick to prove that they were the fastest in the course and after several rounds in the hot seat, he succumbed to sixth place.

The 1.2 kilometer track was filled to the brim with a cheering crowd who celebrated the triumphal return of the race to the colonial city, downhill capital of Mexico, for a second consecutive year. And many held their breaths race with the fierce battle between the Czech legend Tomas Slavik, Colombian Sebastián Holguín and JuanFer Velez. With a mere 45 millisecond difference separating Holguín from Velez.

With the next stop in Italy in October, we are bound to see Velez defend his championship title.
