A truly global five-a-side tournament

This is no ordinary game. The rules will change the style of play and the strategy of the game plan.

Santos (BRA) – Over 100,000 players from more than 45 countries across six continents embarked on a journey with the same dream: outplaying all other athletes and making it to the Red Bull Neymar Jr’s Five World Final. This year, for the second time, a women’s competition was also played in 10 countries. Only the strongest teams made it through and will now get to live their dream at the Instituto Projeto Neymar Jr in Praia Grande, Brazil on 12-13 July, when the 2019 World Champions will be crowned in the tournament that unites the world in football.

Along with the best teams from each country, one international team will also compete for the title: the winners of the Jr‘s Global Five competition, where players from all over the world participated by posting videos of their best skills on their Instagram channels. These individual players have the unique chance to form one international team – Jr’s Global Five – and train together in Brazil for two days, before joining the World Final along with the 42 national champs in the mixed competition representing their home country.

The World Final begins on Friday, July 12, with the group stage. The best teams will advance to the knock-out stage on Saturday and battle it out in the round of 16, quarter-finals and semi-finals before the top two women’s and mixed teams face each other in the final of each division.

The event is hosted at Instituto Projeto Neymar Jr, a private, non-profit association dedicated to social causes set up by the player and his family. Located in Jardim Glória, in Praia Grande, where Neymar Jr spent much of his childhood, the Institute is an 8,400m2 education and sporting complex catering to 2,470 underprivileged children aged between 7 and 14.www.redbullneymarjrsfive.com

Red Bull Neymar Jr’s Five is my five-a-side tournament. It unites players from all around the world to celebrate one passion: football. It is a fast, technical and fun competition, played in countries on six continents.

The rules? Simple. Each match lasts 10 action-packed minutes, there’s no goalkeeper and whenever a team scores, the other loses a player. You need to outplay them all to win your ticket to the World Final in Brazil. This year’s tournament is open to teams of five to seven players ages 16 to 25. Teams can pick two veterans over 25 for their squad. In many countries more players than ever get the chance to experience the Beautiful Game with our women’s competition going into its second year!

In 2018, over 125.000 players from 62 countries signed up with the dream of becoming World Champions. In the end, two teams owned the courts and won the crown: the boys from Mexico and the ladies from Brazil.
